How to Reduce PDF File Size

Oversized PDFs clog email attachment limits and slow uploads. Here's how to slim them down:

1. Structural optimization

Rebuilding a PDF with object streams and removing unused data typically saves 5–40%. Our PDF Compressor does this locally in your browser.

2. Fix the images

Images are usually 90% of a PDF's weight. If you create the PDF yourself (e.g. from scans or images), compress the images first with the Image Compressor, then build the PDF via JPG to PDF.

3. Avoid re-scanning at high DPI

300 DPI is plenty for text scans; 600 DPI quadruples size for no visible gain.
